Don't hate me - drop shotting

Ive always had my controller on default with crouch as circle/B, but today I switched to tactical to give dropshotting a go. Had to really think about it but won a few battles where we were in a prolonged engagement and had time to drop, or the other guy was covered or crouching/prone too. What did take time to get used to was knifing with circle. Even against a sniper I snuck up on, I mentally froze and had to process the fact, oh right! circle button now!

I promise not abuse dropshotting (heck I have to remember to even do it at this phase of my training) It does kind of mix things up a bit and makes those engagements more interesting.

Heck Ben, that's the only setup I use...there's nothing wrong with that, it's just smart, esp. if you're in the run and gun mood
You'll get used to the circle button knifing in time...it's really not that much harder to knife

Ben, I have just changed my controller set up to do the same. I am just starting to get used to it. I have done the odd drop shot but I think more accidental than anything else at the moment. I have also moved my sensitivity up a notch tonight also. Think I did a bit better tonight so I am going to persevere with it.

Some of us need all the help we cam get. I can be a drop shotting fool! someone said I had a modded controller the other day. I was chuffed!

Ben, dropshotting fits your play style well and I 100% guarantee that it will improve your overall game.

Don't know what gun you are using, but the pp90/rapid fire or the p90/rapid fire are both devistating guns to dropshot with.

Keep at it man, little tweaks like this can take your game to a whole different level.

Thanks Jay for the feedback. Yes, my first prestige I loved using those SMGs you mention. After I gold the mp7 I'll work on them again.

Hey if you can do it successfully more power to you. I tried tactical and ended up bopping up and down like a jack-in-the-box while shooting.

I will say that sometimes I get those freak out reactions on a surprise encounter and I'd accidentally R3 and do a swipe (and i really didnt mean to knife) and the guy is too far away and he shoots me. But with tactical that just turns into an accidental squat or prone and you are not interrupted from firing. That happened a couple times yesterday while trying this out and ended up winning the battle. But like I said, I'm still processing Circle knife.

Changing to tactical layout will really help out your chances in winning a firefight......knife-fight? not so much. I have gotten my hands so used to drop-shotting when I get in a tough spot, that I do it on accident. Im trying to break the habit because it doesnt help while playing BF3. You are unable to fire your weapon during the animation of going prone or standing up.

I've always run tactical since BLOPS.

My knife kills are rare.. but I'd rather be able to duck behind cover than knife someone in a panic situation.

WTF? I didn't even know this was an option! I have been cursing you guys for modded controllers all this time and it was an actual setting. Gosh, I gotta go back and un avoid a bunch of people maybe!

it still COULD have been a modded controller. they have it so when they push fire they also cause the prone action to happen simultaneously. this allows you to keep R3 for melee. Above we are discussing the unmodded mode, where R3 = prone and Circle/B = melee. as others have noted, it makes knifing less efficient.
